All About The School

History

The Willington Nursery Cooperative has been in existence since 1958. In 1974, the school began renting out the space that it currently resides in.

How our school is run

Aside from our wonderful teachers, what makes our school such a special place is that it is a cooperative, which means that it is run by the parents. As co-op families, we reap many benefits, such as low tuition and endless opportunities to get involved in our children’s first school experiences. The co-op environment can also foster a strong sense of community, even if you don’t happen to live in the town of Willington. It’s important to know that as a participating family, you have a voice regarding policies and if you see something that needs improvement, you have the opportunity to get involved.

In order to make all of these benefits possible, there are a number of responsibilities that members must commit to. These include:
  • Volunteering to be Helping Parent in the classroom on a rolling schedule;

  • Providing snack for the class on a rolling schedule;

  • Participating in fundraising. All fundraisers have a non-participation fee associated with them;

  • Committee Assignments are made at the beginning of the school term and every effort is made to give you your first choice. While the specific responsibilities vary, all of the jobs are important and the school relies on them to get done.

  • Also, while our monthly Board Meetings are not mandatory, we strongly encourage at least one parent per participating household to attend. It’s a great way to get involved and learn first-hand what’s happening at the school.

Experience tells us that if everyone does his or her part, everything runs smoothly and the kids really benefit from it. We are all looking forward to another great year.
